How to become a hockey umpire

How to become a hockey umpire

Like any other hockey club in the land, we need umpires...

If you'd like to help out but not sure - we can offer practice during training sessions and at Sunday morning colts. Or chat with Martin or Dan. Most games our umpires are mic'ed up which is a huge help (even for seasoned pro's).

Looking for a course?

Step 1: Do the online rules test
This qualifies you as demonstrating that you are competent about knowing the rules.

You don't have to become a level 1 umpire - but if you want to do a course:

Step 2: Sign-up to a level 1 Umpire course
This is online (like a zoom meeting), you need to complete the online rules test first.

England Hockey’s Online Training Hub
A range of online learning resources for Hockey Coaches, Umpires and Teachers, with interactive content and personalised certification.

That's it! If you do the level 1, then you are classed as "level 1 unassessed". Once you feel ready you can be assessed by a level 2 umpire who comes to watch you at an 11-aside match.
