1st XI 6 - 1 Old Williamsonians 1st XI (A)
BBHC travel down to Old Will's in high spirits. Their season was starting to show results, and another win would really set them up for the second half of the season. This overflowed onto the game with BB pinning OW into their half for the first 10 min of the game. Unfortunately the continued pressure was not converted into a goal. Against the run of play OW countered against a BB attack which ended in a short corner. Steve Porter explained to everyone that he had anything in the air covered as the ball fizzed passed his right ear. 1-0 to the home team.
BB didn't let the pressure fall and there pressure quickly ended in a short corner of their own. Sukh Chaggar stepped up to the plate and didn't disappoint evening the score up 1-1. BB continued the pressure with great work from all, quickly resulting in another short corner. BB's new found superstar Sukh converted the second as convincingly as he had the first. BB were up 2-1 at half time.
A rallying half time talk by Paul Harvey meant that BB came out firing in the second half, pushing the opposition into their own half. Great work by Tej Chaggar who nicked the ball off the last defender and fed it to Tom Golding who sent a pile-driver of a shot in to the bottom corner - 3-1 to BB.
This was the last nail in the coffin for OW whose resistance collapsed. The last 15 min of the game saw BB running the show defiantly. A great run round the back by Jamie Perfitt pulling the ball back to Peter Stanley neatly crossing the ball to Dan Lucas for a simple tap in finished a perfect training goal. Five min later saw Tej finish a good day's work with a lovely finish to see BB's lead extend to 5-1. However BB where still not finished. In the dying minutes Dan Lucas nipped through the defence beating everyone but the goalie who could do nothing but take him out. David Pyke finished OW off once and for all with a well taken flick from the spot.
A fantastic will 6-1 for BB who hope their current form carries on to the last game of this half of the season next week against Brighton and Hove.
[Jamie Perfitt]
4th XI 1 - 3 Gravesham 2nd XI (H)
This was a game the 4th team should have won easily.
BBHC totally dominated the first half, creating numerous chances, missing open goals, hitting both posts and putting the ball over the bar when it looked easier to score. The breakthrough came when Pete Allen hit a shot that ex-BBHC keeper Jordan Laws let in by lifting his foot out of the way. Gravesham meanwhile had only one shot which looped into the goal to equalise.
Half time 1-1, but it should have been 3, 4 or 5 to nil.
The second half was a completely different game. BBHC became frustrated by their inability to score and the inevitable happened when Gravesham scored twice after defensive errors. There is not a lot more to say.
Next week we travel to Ashford which is always a tough game.
Thanks to Alex for umpiring.
MOM –Simon – Don't really know why
DOD –Henry – Open goal miss

Ladies' Reports
1st XI 3 - 3 Basildon 1st XI (A)
After the 6-2 thrashing of Canterbury last week, the ladies 1stXI confidence was high. The game was a late start due to a late show from one of the umpires.
We started off tired, however, we soon found our feet, getting into the D and creating a few chances. However, after a well worked short corner, Basildon went 1-0 up. They stepped up the pressure and created more chances for themselves. After a silly mistake by the keeper, Basildon made it 2-0. The ladies were on a downer and this added to the spirit of the Basildon ladies.
5mins before half time. Basildon managed to convert another well worked short corner to make the score 3-0 at half time.
A few words of wisdom from the coach and manager woke the team up and we fought as soon as the whistle went for the second half. Although, BBHC created many chances and had many short corners they just could not score.
However, our luck changed as the defence put a superb ball down the channel for a Miranda Weeks to pick up and score after a 1 on 1 with the keeper. This lifted the spirits of the team and we continually showed we were the better side.
With 10 mins to go BBHC got a short corner which they converted to make the score 3-2. The girls were desperately trying to get the score on an even keel. But our luck just wasn't coming. Until a short corner created by Hannah Johnson could change our luck.
The full time whistle went and all ten players rallied around the D. A well took corner converted by Sam Hall levelled the game and score 3-3. A very well deserved score.
Miranda Weeks= 1. Sam Hall =2.

2nd XI 1 - 0 Meopham 1st XI (H)
On Saturday 3rd December, the ladies 2nd XI took on 2nd placed Meopham at Erith School. BBHC had been playing well over the last couple of weeks and so wanted to continue with their winning streak. So after a rousing team talk before the game, BBHC came out to win the game.
Depending on who you spoke to, Meopham were either deservedly 2nd place in the league or as others thought, how were they 2nd in the league?? My opinion was the latter and BBHC had all the pressure in the first 15-20minutes. Two fantastic crosses from Becca O'Connor and Julie Lake were unfortunately not converted into goals but the hope was that a goal wasn't far away.
After more pressure from all of the BBHC team, a strike on goal resulted in the keeper being beaten but a defender from Meopham stopped the ball on the line with her feet. The umpire initially gave a penalty corner but after a glance to the second umpire, the decision was changed to a flick. Jeanette Grabham stepped up to the plate and very coolly put the ball away in the lower left corner. 1-0 to BBHC.
Meopham did seem to pick up their game a little in the second half but they still seemed more intent on chopping away at BBHC's sticks rather than trying to get the ball. The umpires seemed to pick up on this in the second half and rightly so, more free hits were given to BBHC. After a particularly nasty follow through, Becca O'Oonnor was hit in the mouth causing a split lip and she had to go off.
BBHC continued to play their game and managed to finish out the game 1-0. Thanks to Julie Somers-Bayley who played in goal and well done to player of the match, Alison Prior. Not our best game compared to the last couple of weeks but a well fought win.
[Vicky Jones]
3rd XI 1 - 6 Gore Court 3rd XI (A)
With the crescent moon casting a shadow in the evening sky, and the edges of the pitch beginning to freeze, a determined BBHC side took on their opponents.
Chances were few as a well-drilled and able Gore Court had wave on wave of attacking play. The defence tried very hard to stop the attacks but were outclassed and outplayed on many occasions.
the highlights for us were some fine keeping by Charnleigh to enable the score line to remain at 3 nil at half time and some half chances being exploited by Hannah Prong and Cara on the right.
The second half was for the most part more of the same, except for a fine display from the midfield and forwards gifted Holly Clamp with a well deserved goal.
The only question on our lips was how on earth did the Burnt Ash squad that we beat 4 - 0, happen to beat this very good Gore Court side by the same margin! Answers on a postcard please!
Many thanks to Jeanette for umpiring (albeit reluctantly).

Men's Report
1st XI 1 - 3 Sutton Valence 1st XI (H)
After a lively start BBHC could not muster a goal and were left to pay for it as Sutton Valence secured the 3 points with some fine counter attacking hockey.
The first 10 mins was a blitz of high pressing attacking hockey from the home side. BBHC dominated possession but as the clock ticked on the SV goal could not be breached. Moving the ball from left to right, and mixing it with aerials, provided an entertaining game.
SV took the lead through intercepting the ball and with 1-2s worked their way into the BBHC D and scored cooly in the bottom corner.
In the second half BBHC took the game to SV. Both teams winning short corners. SVs second came from the more direct approach. A thumping drive into the BBHC d area resulted in a fine deflection. The third goal began from a misplaced pass and a swift move in to the d resulted in a 1-2 that left the keeper standard.
BBHC moved to a high press there after and with the final whistle blown, won and scored to grab a consolatory goal.

4th XI 9 -0 Gillingham Anchorians 4th XI (A)
This week the 4th team travelled to bottom side Anchorians.
In a frantic opening period the game was played around the Anchorians goal but very few chances were created. As BBHC settled down and found a better shape to their play it was Keiron Baker who opened the scoring ghosting in at the far post to get the breakthrough goal. Further goals from Pete Allen and Henry Palmer gave the 4's a comfortable half time lead. The only downside being an injury to Andy Humber which saw him leave the game.
The second half commenced with BBHC's dominance being swiftly rewarded with Keiron adding his second at the far post. Further goals followed swiftly from Allen, Palmer, Darren Storey and Kevin. Joe Brown, however, despite his best efforts, including taking penalty corners failed to get his name on the scoresheet.
Thanks to Gareth Jones for umpiring.

Ladies' Report
1st XI 6 - 2 Canterbury 2A (H)
After a run of unfortunate results, BBHC ladies first team were looking to change their luck in their clash with top of the table Canterbury.
Their plans for a good strong start paid off in the first couple of minutes, when having won a free hit just outside the circle, captain Sue Moore quickly took the hit, drove into the circle and Karen Hall was quick to make the most of the rebound, slotting it past the goalie to put BBHC one up. A perfect start.
BBHC continued to attack but the Canterbury defence held them at bay.
Against the run of play, Canterbury equalised, but BBHC heads didn't go down and after some excellent work again by the forwards, Maz Weeks took a strike at goal and beat the goalie to put BBHC back in front at 2 – 1. The score remained that way until half time.
The half time team talk maintained BBHC's confidence and it wasn't long into the second half when Sarah Harvey made an excellent driving run down the right, crossed the ball into the circle for Maz Weeks to score her second and put BBHC 3-1 up.
Canterbury continued to counter attack, but some resolute defending by BBHC's defence meant that they did not break through. BBHC continued to pressurise Canterbury and earned another short corner that was converted by Sam Hall to make the score 4 – 1.
It seemed BBHC switched off immediately after this goal, as Canterbury broke quickly from their own half and scored within a couple of minutes. 4 – 2.
BBHC were not to be discouraged however and another great solo effort from Maz Weeks was finished with a stunning reverse stick hit to secure her hatrick and put BBHC 5 – 2 up.
With the game nearing the end, BBHC made the most of a Canterbury error from a free hit, Maz Weeks pouncing on a deflection, quickly passing to Karen Hall for her to score her second and make the score 6 – 2 to BBHC.
The score remained that way for the rest of the game. A superb performance by the whole team resulting in a very well deserved win and three points.
[Sue Moore]
2nd XI 5 - 3 Herne Bay 1st XI (A)
The ladies 2's travelled to Herne Bay this weekend. After last week's successful trip to Canterbury, BBHC were fired up and ready for another win.
From the initial whistle, it was clear that BBHC were going to have to play well if they wanted to win. Possession of the ball seemed to be shared equally for the first 5 minutes of the game. BBHC then took charge and had a good attacking period and a ball from Jeanette Grabham at the 25 yard line was put into the back of the goal by Vicky Jones.
BBHC continued to press well but a break from Herne Bay saw them pull the scores level. BBHC were not going to be beaten and pushed hard on the Herne Bay defence and were rewarded when Grabham again passed a great ball into the D which was helped goal bound by Jones. This initial shot was saved, but Sarah Whale was there for the rebound which she coolly put away.
After half time, BBHC were determined to keep their lead and take home the 3 points. After some good attacking work in the Herne Bay D, Caitlin Colman got on the score sheet to make it 3-1. Herne Bay managed to claw a goal back. BBHC continued to pressure Herne Bay and a short corner was awarded. With BBHC's ‘not very good conversion rate on short corners' reputation, it was not a sure thing a goal would follow. But finally breaking the reputation, a good hit out from the base line from Jones to Graham, who stopped the ball, was then slipped to Helen Lucas who connected really well with the ball, aiming just outside the left post, back to Jones who guided the ball into the back of the net. 4-2 to BBHC. With a 2 goal lead, BBHC did not sit back and continued to press. A late penalty flick was awarded to Herne Bay. This was converted making the score 4-3. BBHC wanted their 2 goal margin back and a second goal from Colman secured this. Final whistle blew and the BBHC had won 5-3.
Well done to the whole team, as everyone played great. Player of match was a tie between Zoe Hubbard and Becca O'Connor.

1st XI 2 - 0 Sevenoaks 2nd XI (A)
BBHC travelled to Sevenoaks in confident mood after improving results in recent weeks and started by putting Sevenoaks under constant pressure and only some good saves by the keeper kept BBHC at bay.
Eventually Tej Chaggar managed to beat the keeper to make it 1-0. Sevenoaks created some chances on the counter attack but good saves from Steve Porter and a clearance off the line from Rob Porter kept BBHC's lead intact.
In the second half BBHC kept possession and created more chances and were finally rewarded with a second goal via a deflection by Tom Golding. BHHC kept it solid for the remainder of the game and were comfortable winners and are now up to 6th in the league.
[Ben Bradley]
2nd XI 1 - 8 Maidstone 2nd XI (H)
Another disappointing result for us this week we held a clean sheet for all but 1 and a half minutes.
After this set back we picked up our game, managing to get Dave Cole and Mark "Peewee" Pickersgill more involved into the game. Ten minutes of pressure on the opponents goal allowed us to create our first goal - a free hit just outside the D taken quickly by Dave Cole allowed Peewee a shooting chance and Phil Williams tapped in the rebound from close range.
Then honours went to Alex Webster seeing the first card of the game for saying “can you make sure everyone 5 please umpire” his first green of the game. Shortly after this Dave Cole went off injured meaning a reshuffle of the defence and midfield. Then, just before the break, Maidstone scored two goals in the last ten minutes of the first half.
The second half was a disappointing affair. Two of our short corners falling unkindly and scrambled away by Maidstone. We only got the ball into their half a handful of times. They quickly scored a handful of goals, including 3 that GK Sunny Neta really should have saved.
Then Adrian Prong attempted to take out Peewee and succeeded, meaning yet another injury. However he bravely carried on. Then controversial umpiring turned this game into a heated affair.
Then cards were shown like they were going out of fashion.
Final score 1-8 however well done to the lads who never gave up. Sutton Valence next - let's hope for a better result next week.
[Philip Williams]
4th XI 5 -1 Sutton Valence 4th XI (H)
With the 4th team near the bottom of Kent Open Division 1, a win was needed against fellow strugglers Sutton Valence.
BBHC started the game well moving the ball swiftly and creating enough chances to win 3 or 4 games. The best opportunity fell to Dave King who, finding himself in unfamiliar territory, shot tamely at the keeper. However, BBHC's hard work was rewarded late in the half when youthful centre forward Andy Humber struck with two goals to give BBHC the half time lead.
Taking the view that two goals would not be enough, the half time team talk concentrated on keeping up the good work and increasing the lead. Surprisingly, it was Mark Hudson running onto a cross who gave BBHC the vital third goal; Mark is becoming quite prolific as that's now two goals in two seasons after many barren years.
Sutton Valence came back into the game briefly with a goal from a narrow angle. However, with the game becoming stretched a cross from the left reached Keiron Baker, who tucked the ball home at the far post for his first goal for the 4's. A late Andy Humber goal gave him his hat-trick and BBHC their best result of the season. This moves the improving 4th team up from 11th to 8th in the table.
Thanks again to Steve Webster for umpiring.

2nd XI 4 - 1 Canterbury 3rd XI (A)
Bexleyheath and Belvedere Hockey Club Ladies 2nd XI took a trip to Canterbury at the weekend and came away 4-1 victors.
With at 10.30am pushback in Canterbury, BBHC had to make sure they were awake and ready to take on Canterbury. The game appeared to start evenly but after a break by BBHC, Julie Lake took BBHC in the lead within a few minutes. BBHC knew that Canterbury would fight back and were prepared and defended well and kept their shape. Again, BBHC took the initiative and Lake scored again to go 2 up. Again, BBHC knew that could not sit back on their lead and the defence and midfield did their part by keeping Canterbury at bay. Before the half time whistle, Lake was again in the right place at the right time and scored a 3rd goal making it her hatrick.
After half time, BBHC came out strong and knew that Canterbury would be looking to get back in the game. Canterbury managed to pull a goal back but within a minutes, a stunning run and converted shot took the score to 4-1. The game finished on this score, with the final score being 4-1 to BBHC.

2nd XI 0 - 5 Folkestone Optimist 2nd XI (A)
Well it is sad to report that prior to even turning up to play we did not have a full complement.
Although everyone was fully aware of this before they set off, it initally did not effect the way we played. Everyone's attitude and commitment was excellent. Folkestone started at a high tempo with several attempts to score being thwarted by Sunny or last ditch defending. Unfortunately after all the fine defending a mis-hit reverse stick shot was our un-doing. We continued to slowly claw our way into the game pushing higher up the pitch with a couple penalty corners being awarded.
The 2nd half was a different matter where as the defending had been assured in the 1st half, a poor pass allowed Folkestone to make it 2-0. Then using there numerical advantage they moved the ball well around the pitch and added a further 3 goals, 2 from open play and one from a penalty corner.
[Adrian Prong]
3rd XI 5 - 5 Deal 1st XI (H)
A fine start from the home side saw Allan Sains' cross sturck from inside the D being directed into the goal by a Deal defender's foot. However, a heated first half saw the seasiders score 3 goals, 2 from deft deflections after poor concentration from the BBHC defence.
Things looked tough for the B's but 3 consecutive goals saw them take a fine lead (including an expert drag flick by Sains). All this despite Jacques Lourens being sin-binned for a lazy stick tackle from behind. Deal's number 7 trod a fine line with his constant chatter to the umpires, but his team were able to equalise only for BBHC lead once more soon after. Unfortunately, the B's threw away two points as James Smith's foot stopped a Deal shot on the line. The penalty stroke was converted and the teams left the pitch with a point each.
It was great to see most of the visitors back to the club for a beer and bite to eat.
[Andrei Mendis]
4th XI 1 -1 Canterbury Griffins (A)
The 4th team travelled to Canterbury with a greatly changed side for what looked like a difficult game of hockey against an experienced veterans' side.
BBHC started the game with a number of players in unfamiliar positions but this did not deter them as they set out to hustle Canterbury and dominate the first half with youngsters Keiron Baker and Andrew Hawes playing well on the wings. BBHC got their reward when Henry Palmer found space in the circle and lifted the ball over the diving Canterbury keeper. Indeed Henry was unlucky later on when the Canterbury keeper produced an amazing save to keep the half time score at 1-0.
The second half commenced with Canterbury pushing forward and the BBHC defence holding strong with man-of-the-match Mark Hudson making some great tackles and Sam Cuthbert and Werner standing firm at full back.
Canterbury eventually equalised from a short corner after a period of sustained pressure. This inspired BBHC to attack in search of the winner and with time running out they were rewarded when awarded a penalty stroke for a foul in the circle. The taker Pete Allen attempted to fool the keeper who was unable to dive out of the way due to the speed of the shot and made the save.
Thanks to Steve Webster for umpiring.

Ladies' Report
1st XI 1 - 1 Brentwood 1st XI (A)
Saturday saw Bexleyheath and Belvedere Hockey Club Ladies 1st XI visit Essex for a match against Brentwood and gain another point in a 1-1 draw.
It seemed that in the first ten minutes BBHC had not turned up as Brentwood made a number of attacks on the BBHC defence. After this period of pressure on BBHC, Brentwood's persistence won them a short corner from which, after a number of shots and failed clearances, they took the lead 1-0.
The first half continued and saw BBHC finally pick up some momentum but the score remained 1-0 at half time.
The second half saw BBHC come out and take charge. Great persistence from BBHC was paid off when a penalty corner was awarded to BBHC. BBHC played the set piece perfectly and the corner was converted beautifully into a goal by Natalie Lane, bringing the score level to 1-1. BBHC kept up the pressure with numerous attacks on the Brentwood goal but could not find the second winning goal.
Final score remained 1-1 giving BBHC a hard earned point.
[Natalie Lane]
3rd XI 2 - 1 Old Bordenian 2nd XI (A)
Well hello there dear reader unfortunately for you we have an injured Chrisy so you will have to put up with reading my old waffle about the match this week!
Well what a fantastic week for the Ladies' 3rd XI, we finally got our much needed and deserved win. Yes you did read that right WE WON! We took a little trip down to Sittingbourne only taking a bare 11 players but we did have plenty of determination.
Old Bordenians looked like a strong side with plenty of young players and plenty of subs! We didn’t let that put us off and not long into the first half Elaine Holmes won us our lead with a cheeky little goal. Within 90 seconds, Cara Eaton followed that up with a second goal that came straight from our D with just four passes right into their D for Cara to score. There was some pretty good team work going on which, despite being tired, spurred us all on to maintain that score until the last two minutes of the match.
Unfortunately Old Bordenians managed to score a goal from a short corner. We thought it was all over but another short corner given to the oppo just before the final whistle meant that we had to cross our fingers and hope all of our hard work wouldn’t end up in a draw. Luckily for us we had Kim Selby standing on the goal line who stopped a strike from the oppo and knocked the ball out of play, we all breathed a sigh of relief.
Fantastic team work this week the whole team deserve a pat on the back. Great goals from Cara and Elaine, brilliant defence from Kim Selby and Ruth Kerslake and great running from Holly Clamp, Rosie Jones and Maggie but a huge well done everyone. Just one more special mention for Martin Mason, thank you so much for stepping in at the last moment to umpire for us.

1st XI 3 - 2 Folkestone Optimist 1st XI (A)
After a frustrating loss last week, BBHC travelled to Folkestone in search of a win.
BBHC was put under pressure from push back as the ball bobbled under Dave Pyke's stick leaving the goal keeper with a simple clearance to be made but slipped over allowing the ball to roll out for a long corner.
The long corner was taken quickly but BBHC goal keeper Steve Porter reacted quickly with a very solid firm slide sending the ball wide and the attacker flying.
With the game very much an end-to-end affair,BBHC got themselves a short corner which David Pyke struck sweetly to put BBHC 1 up. Folkestone counter attacked hard for the next 10 minutes and after some more fine defending and great keeping from BBHC, Folkestone finally found their way through and were level after smashing the ball into the roof of the net.
With the second half on the way BBHC switched off and allowed a Folkestone midfielder to dribble 40 yards in to the D with ease, simple pass to the forward and goal.
With BBHC 2-1 down they knew they had to battle hard to get any result out of the game and with a great run from Tej Chaggar down the right all the way to the back line he slipped the ball to Dan Lucas to tap in for 2-2.
BBHC continued to get stuck-in and with Folkestone letting frustration get the better of them, they were a man down for arguing with the umpire after already being warned. 2 minutes later Folkestone had a player red carded for verbally abusing our beautiful, star centre-back.
With the clock ticking down BBHC got themselves a short corner, with the first shot blocked the ball came to Sam Ashenden who struck the ball on his reverse which looped over everybody and into the top corner. Boom BBHC 3 Folkestone 2!
The final minutes of the game were very tense but BBHC defended well as usual and anything that did sneak through was easily dealt with by Steve in goal.
Full time 3-2 win well deserved with the man-of-the-match going to Steve Porter for his great keeping, stand up and take a bow son.
[Steve Porter]
2nd XI 2 - 4 University of Kent 2nd XI (H)
Some people say that from adversity come great things which nearly did happen. Due to high non availability and illness, a rag tag team was cobbled together. A great amount of thanks must go to everyone that did play and the team spirit was brilliant.
From the outset it was obvious that Uni of Kent were by far younger, fitter and quicker then ourselves. This did not seem to have any effect to start with, we played very well using the pace of Raj or the wall like Andy H to hold the ball up. From a mistake outside of Kents D Andy was slipped a pass which he smashed into the goal 1-0 hold on! With our spirit buoyed we pressed for a further goal which sadly did not come, unfortunately due to a pass straight to there centre forward was tucked away with applomb 1-1, this was shortly followed by a deflection 2-1 to Kent. Not letting our heads drop we continued to plug away with a fine individual goal by Alex Webster 2-2 we're back in it.
The second half became a dis-jointed affair with fitness beginning to show or lack of it and the oppo showing no signs of tiring. Couple of further defensive errors allowed 2 deflected goals, we did win a penalty flick which almost went in.
MoM- Sunny fantastic saves
DoD- Pingu what was that P flick again?

3rd XI 1 - 3 Folkestone Optimist 3rd XI (A)
An early start gave the team enough time for a quick breakfast in Morrison's next door to the Cheriton Road Sports Ground. This seemed to pay off as Jacques Lourens slotted the ball home during a slight scramble during a BBHC penalty corner after 5 minutes. BBHC's old heads played a slower brand of hockey that gradually moved up the pitch, whilst Folkestone attacked more expansively with their young side. Good BBHC pressure saw chances come and pass, and their hosts made them pay as a smart move down the right saw them slot home from them iddle of the D.
Captain and GK Danny Major then suffered a blood injury as a shot crept under his helmet, hitting his jaw and reopening an old injury. Play stopped for 10 minutes as he was patched up. The same pattern of hockey continued but Folkestone scored just before half time when their initial short corner strike was saved by Major but was not cleared. The Folkestone forward easily tapped home.
The defence was shuffled slightly at half time and everything looked promising. However, BBHC continued to fail to convert their chances, with the young home keeper having a fantastic game. Folkestone bagged the ponts with a 3rd goal reminiscent of their first.
BBHC were left to rue their failure to score more than their solitary goal in a game they could easily have put to bed in the first half.
Next week, Deal 1st XI at home.

4th XI 2 -2 Holcombe 5A (H)
Fielding a strong team BBHC started well taking the game to Holcombe and creating a string of chances. It was no surprise when Pete Allen opened the scoring from a short corner to give BBHC the lead. The game continued to be played in the Holcombe half with BBHC failing to add the vital second goal despite some enterprising play from debutant Henry Palmer. Half time 1-0 to BBHC.
With BBHC pushing forward it was against the run of play that Holcombe equalised from a short corner. With BBHC reduced to ten men Holcombe took advantage after a defensive mishap to take the lead. With time running out a cross was directed into the roof of the net by Darren Storey for the equaliser.
Another disappointing result in view of BBHC's dominance in the first half.
Thanks to Steve Webster for umpiring.

1st XI 1 - 1 Holcombe 2nd XI (H)
BBHC managed to gain a point this weekend at Erith, after drawing 1-1 with Holcombe at their home ground.
Defensively, BBHC were strong and gave some intelligent passes to the midfield players who continuously drove the ball into the opposition's half, frustrated forward players could not deliver their usual goal consistency.
Holcombe pinched a goal from a short corner leaving BBHC 1-0 down. Within minutes of that score change and positivity from the team, midfielder Maz battled her way through a few Holcombe players in style to gain a much needed short corner; from which the captain Sue Moore scored a beautiful goal equalizing the game and giving BBHC the confidence to regain there shape and drive forward for more attempts at goal.
Unfortunately there were no more fireworks from either team leaving the final score 1-1.
Poem about Saturday
The team played well together
Oh so well then they started losing it felt like hell
It was the fat girl who couldn't run that scored the best goal
She had a beard no teeth and a hairy mole
The girls from South Africa were sloppy on the pitch
And made BBHC go down to their level which was a bit of a bitch
So Pippy is doing the match report and she's a bit of a div
But we didn't win we didn't lose and a point we came away with.

3rd XI 1 - 1 Holcombe 4th XI (H)
Greetings, dear reader, sorry about being in communicado last week...did you miss me?! No? Oh well back to the matter in hand.
Holcombe were always going to be a tough opposition and riding high on our excellent performance against Sevenoaks last week, a confident yet determined team started brightly.
We had a bright start with Cara and Maggie making some fine runs up the wings, but those in the D couldn't convert. Finally towards the end of the first half Rosie Jones tapped in a very soft but well deserved goal.
After some stirring words at half time from our Captain of the day, Kim, we tried to extend our lead. Unfortunately the final pass evaded us again, and within the first 15 mins Holcombe scored. It was such a feeble effort, the Holcombe player had no idea it had trickled over the line!
So overall a frustrating result, but as they say a point is a point.
Well done to Charnleigh, Ruth, Lou and Ang for keeping Holcombe's attack at bay, and Hannah, Holly and Elaine for some fantastic attacking hockey.
Next week, away at Old Bordenian HC.

Men's Report
1st XI 1 - 1 Holcombe 2nd XI (A)
BBHC first team travelled away to Holcombe. The away side started well pressuring the home side into there half. Some excellent passages of play down the right caused Holcombe problems before the ball was transferred out and round to find Sam Ashenden at the top of the D, who wobbled his way to a short corner. BBHC's slick routine never got started as the ball was played to short, it pinged around the D a few times before falling in front of Dan Lucas who doesn't miss from there. BB where 1 up.
Holcombe where rattled and tried to come back into the game but all the pressure was sooked up well with bb countering on the break. Some lovely runs by Jamie Perfitt and Peter Stanley unfortunately resulted in nothing with the forwards just failing to latch onto there passes in the D. The half time score was 1-0 to BB.
The second half started with chances at both ends however as before just the final touch was lacking from both teams. With BB chances not resulting in extending there lead Holcombe begain to get the uphand, thanks to the back line and Steve Porter in goal for keeping us in the game.
Unfortunately, with all the pressure and BB unable to clear their half, it seemed only a matter of time before Holcombe drew level. A moment's lack of concentration let Holcombes forwards into our D. Some great initial saves from Steve were not enough to keep them at bay. And they leveled 1 all.
With 10 min to go it was now anyone's game. Both teams stepped up the pressure with chances at both ends. With 2 mins to go a ball found its way through Holcombe's defence and Jamie Perfitt sprinted past his opponents to give himself a fantastic shot on goal, which he completely messed up but somehow won a short corner.
So this was it one chance for BB to win the game. The short corner worked exactly as it had in training, with the deflected ball by Tom Golding just squeezing outside the post. A missed opportunity. That's how the game finished 1 all. A good result but the team may regret the 2 points lost.
[Jamie Perfitt]
2nd XI 1 - 11 Marden Russets 2nd XI (H)
The scoreline tells you it was a game to forget. But it started with both clubs admitting to selection difficulties this weekend - Marden were decimated by 20+ injured players, whilst only a fraction of BBHC's 25 absent male members were crocked - shocking.
Marden capitallised on sloppy defending at a short corner for their injector to deflect the ball tamely home. Then BBHC's casualty list increased by 1 as Andrei Mendis made a successful jab tackle to dispossess the Marden centre forward as he pulled the trigger, but his follow-through caused a dislocated and fractured left thumb! By the time he headed for hospital, the hosts were 5-0 down.
By all accounts, BBHC were off with the fairies despite a very capable line-up. What more can be added?

1st XI 0 - 1 Tunbridge Wells 1st XI (H)
This Saturday saw BBHC Ladies 1st XI playing a home fixture against Tunbridge Wells. After an unfortunate loss the previous week BBHC were keen to pressurise early and had a confident start.
There was a lot of early attack with the ball being fed well through the midfield by Sarah Harvey resulting in several short corners. Unfortunately BBHC were unable to take these opportunities and convert them into a goal.
Ten minutes before half time saw Tunbridge Wells counter attack and take the lead as a result of a short corner. BBHC were quick to respond with Sue Moore taking a confident strike on goal which rebounded off the post!!
BBHC continued to battle in the second half seeing Sorcha Crowley attacking confidently.
Despite looking like the strongest team BBHC were unable to change the score line. An unlucky 1 - 0 loss!

3rd XI 0 - 2 Ashford 3rd XI (H)
Well dear reader, all the friendly spectators were heard to utter ..."you had all the play .... how on Earth did you lose?"
How indeed? BBHC played very well and had so many shots on goal but were unable to convert. Ashford played their usual game of hockey- hit anything but the ball and always, always follow through! Ashford had two lucky strikes and managed to score.
A very frustrated, bruised and battered team limped off.
Cara, Rosie, Lou and Charnligh played very well and created a lot of problems for the oppo.
Next week a stupid 8.30 am meet away to Sevenoaks.

1st XI 1 - 3 Marden Russets 1st XI (H)
The 1's had a challenging home game against Marden Russets and unfortunately went down 3-1.
The first half was a very tight affair with neither team getting many opportunities in the D. BBHC managed to keep the majority of possession and this paid off with a neat (some would say lucky) deflection by Tom Golding to give them the lead.
After half time Marden responded and put BBHC under early pressure, which they took advantage of at a short corner. The game then ebbed and flowed but BBHC could not take advantage of the ‘D' entries they made and then Marden won a penalty flick that on another day could have been a short corner. This made it 2-1 and then BBHC had to re-arrange when Sukh Chaggar lost a tooth with a painful blow.
Marden managed to seal the win with a goal on the counter and as hard as BBHC tried in the final 10 minutes they couldn't get a goal. Still with some better performances next week the coach and captain are positive that next week vs Holcombe we can get a win.

2nd XI 2 - 3 Sevenoaks 3rd XI (A)
The game starts with the whistle, which for us was a 2 minute delay, enough for Oaks to score from PC won straight from the push back. With a further sloppy goal given away, 2-0. Other teams may have wilted with such a poor start, but what has been shown after the last couple of weeks is the 2s need this as a kick start almost in a literal sense. With the press profiting the Bs on 80% of its use, it was not long till Ravi Chana dribbled into the D for his shot to be deflected into Oaks goal 2-1. With what can only be classed as a minor spat in our D, 2 x Oaks and 1 of our own were shown yellow cards. Although the one man advantage was not used with the greater portion of the possession going to us. It took till both teams were back to 11 when a fine team goal was deflected in by Allan Sains - 2-2 half time.
The second half was a pretty even affair with the greater chances going to Bs, with saved PF from Sains, post struck by Chana, and Philip Williams deflecting a goal bound shot away from the goal. For all the hard endeavour a great initial save from another PC to a scuffed goal 3-2 to Oaks. Although we pushed as hard as we could an equaliser just would not happen.
MOM- The team again.

3rd XI 6 - 2 Blackheath 3rd XI (H)
A warm sunny day greeted the teams at Erith School Beach and the 3's used their home advantage to cut through the right flank within a few minutes to create the first goalscoring chance. Chris Deeks rolled back the years as he waltzed passed Blackheath defenders and into the D and kept going, giving himself a tight angle to strike a sweet shot into the left-hand side of the goal. Deadly hockey. However, those years immediately caught up with him as he tweaked a groin muscle during the shot and had to go off!
BBHC by no means looked convincing and disaster struck as GK James Breaker flapped at a shot that was 2 metres wide of the goal and deflecting it towards goal. It stopped virtually dead, 5cm from the open goal for an easy tap in that the young Blackheath number 7 nearly made a meal of! A Jon White goal did not settle BBHC nerves as they continued to let Blackheath have chances.
2-1 at half time and the heat was taking its toll. It was vital to score the next goal - and it was White who stepped up to successfully convert a penalty stroke after a short corner strike was illegally blocked. However, BBHC conceded a soft goal at a short corner, the ball eluding Breaker's dive and Andy Franklin was caught out as he had taken 2 steps too many outside the right post.
Stand-in captain Andrei Mendis was feeling the pressure but midfield general Ranbir Kalsi kept firm by constantly winning back possession and distributing it effectively. Chuckie converted a flowing move and Blackheath spirits took a major dent. White soon completed his hat-trick and was also able to miss a subsequent penalty stroke.
White made it 4 for him in the closing stages and 6 for the victorious B's!
MOM - Jon White - 4-goal hero.
DOD - James Breaker - Great assist for the oppo to score their first goal and keep them in the game early on!
Next week, captain Danny Major returns for the trip to Old Bordenian.

4th XI 3 - 0 Sevenoaks 7th XI (A)
Still looking for their first win of the season the 4th team welcomed back the goal machine that is Andy Humber. After watching the 2nd team unluckily lose a close fought encounter, the 4's took to the field in a determined mood.
It was clear from the early exchanges that the forward pair of Andy Humber and Pete Allen were going to give the Sevenoaks defence a tough game. It was from a well-worked short corner routine that BBHC took the lead when Sal Muhammed calmly stroked the ball past the outstretched Sevenoaks keeper. With Andy Humber scoring his customary goal, the 4th team had a healthy two goal lead at the interval.
The second half was played mainly in the BBHC half of the field, but with the defence of Sunny, Sam, Simon, John, Barry and Mark producing an inspired performance the 4's thwarted Sevenoaks in their attempts to get a breakthrough goal. A Sevenoaks foot on the line gave BBHC a P flick which Pete Allen calmly converted to secure a 3-0 victory.

1st XI 2 - 4 Thurrock 1st XI (A)
BBHC Ladies 1st XI were away this weekend to Thurrock . Following their winning streak, BBHC started well and pressurised early. However, Thurrock counterattacked and scored from an early penalty corner.
Unfortunately, BBHC captain Sue Moore received a nasty injury to her lip which put her out of action for part of the game. BBHC continued to play well and were rewarded with a great equaliser from Natalie Lane bringing the score to 1-1 at the half time whistle.
The second half started well and the game looked to be pretty even. With 20 minutes still left to play, Sorcha Crowley scored a cracking goal and BBHC had taken the lead. The lead was not to last as soon after, Thurrock scored from a penalty corner for 2-2.
Some controversial decisions lead to 2 penalty flicks being awarded to Thurrock both of which were converted. Final score 4-2 to Thurrock . BBHC returned home deflated.

After the previous weeks thumping by Cliftonville, the team selection was shuffled welcoming a number of 3s players and one missed AWOL goalie to there merry throng.
Starting the better of the 2 teams it was a bit of shock and very unlucky to have given away 2 goals within the first ten minutes. The best medicine for this is by instant reply of a goal which penalty corner specialist Chuckie did with aplomb 2-1 we are back in the game. From the press the ball was broken down within 4 passes from outside our D to the other D, Dazie unleashed a cannonball of a shot 2-2. This seem to have effected the opposition and a number of squandered chances at further penalty corners were rewarded with another Chuckie special 3-2 half time.
The 2nd half was a strange affair really, we were by far the greater of the two teams, but did not initially turn all the possession into goals. The 4th goal eventually coming again from Chuckie like a pinball the follow up shot bounced off the goalie and in turn struck one of there players in the head goal! 4-2. The game resumed once said heading player had first aid treatment. Pressing for the 5th we were troubled by what could only be considered a difference of umpiring styles 3 yellow card sending offs for stick tackles on our team 9 players for 7 minutes. With the similar infringements Canterbury were given green cards. A penalty flick was awarded which was taken well 4-3, 3 minutes left the final whistle could not have come any sooner.

4th XI 3 - 5 Tunbridge Wells 4th XI (A)
After seeing a poor performance from the England rugby team the 4 th team travelled to Tunbridge Wells looking for their first league win of the season.
Pete Allen put BBHC ahead with a smartly taken goal from the top of the D. Unfortunately this caused the 4's to relax and we then proceeded to concede three goals from short corners before half time.
BBHC pushed forward in the second half and created a number of chances which they failed to convert. Meanwhile Tunbridge Wells scored a further two goals to go 5 – 1 ahead.
It was too late in the game that BBHC got their second goal through Jacques, which was followed by a third from a James Smith short corner.
A disappointing result like the rugby as BBHC were the better team in the second half.

Well dear reader what can I say about our first win of the season, except a fine performance by all. Oh you want more than that? Oh Ok then....
With many of our regular team unavailable, it was a welcome return for Hayley and Caitlin, and fine debuts for Holly and Rosie. We dominated the whole game and took an early lead after some fine attacking play from Maggie, Hannah, Rosie and Holly.
Hayley, Ruth and Ang took no prisoners at the back and Burnt Ash were frustrated with their efforts to get a shot on goal. The second half was just as fine, with Holly getting her first senior goal.
Three points over our local rivals was very well deserved.
Thanks go to Karen, Caitlin and Becca, plus Vicky who was able to shout encouragingly from the side.
Cheers to Jeanette Grabham who umpired well.

And so another season commences with the temperature bizarrely hitting 30 degrees.
A home fixture against OB’s looked to be the ideal start to the season. However, little did we know that OB’s had replaced their entire 4th team with a university side of average age 20. While for a number of the 4th team (Simon Brown) 20 years of age is but a distant memory.
The game commenced with OB’s chasing the ball like eager puppies and BBHC hanging back to gauge the standard of the team they were up against. We soon found out when three quick goals for OB looked to have set the agenda for the game. BBHC regrouped and got back into the match with two well taken goals from Pete Allen. However, a further brace from OB’s restored their three goal advantage at half time.
After a rousing half time talk from James Smith and with the mercury rising BBHC went on the offensive, testing the OB keeper on a number of occasions. Unfortunately, this left BBHC vulnerable to the counter attack and we were conceding goals on a regular basis. A short corner goal from Sal meant the 4’s scored 3 but conceded 10.

1st XI 6 - 0 Gillingham Anchorians 1st XI (A)
The third game of the season saw a geared up 1st XI ready to take on Anchs, on one of the hottest day of the year, following their 8-1 win last week against Sevenoaks. Sarah Harvey opened the score line on the 14th minute and from there the rest of the goals came regularly.
The second goal came from a hit down the left wing from Samantha Hall to Sorcha Crowley who struck from the top of the D, putting it in the bottom left corner.
Following some more quick and confident passing down the left side of the pitch, Sharon Young received the ball unmarked at the top of the D, calmly turning to shoot at goal, converting B's third.
BBHC's forwards continued to cause problems for the Anchorians defence, resulting in several one on ones with the Anchs keeper. This paid off when Natalie Lane, calmly slotted the ball between the goalkeepers legs giving BBHC a 4-0 lead. A fifth goal was scored by Sally Wallace from a penalty corner.
BBHC continued to pressure Anchorians and a final attack on the Anchs defence from Sorcha Crowley and Natalie Lane, who found themselves in a two on one situation, with Sorcha setting up Natalie for her second goal.
BBHC now sit 3rd in the league. Next week sees a home match against Gore Court.
3rd XI 1 - 5 Edenbridge 1st XI (H)
well hello dear reader, welcome back. With scenes reminiscent to the Sahara rather than Autumn, we started our encounter against last seasons promoted side! We started well with some good passing from the back through mid-field. Charnleigh saved some fine passes as the expertise of Edenbridge shone through. fading incredibly fast in the 29 degree blazing sun, we made it to half time.
In the second half, Elaine, Lisa and Maggie battled to keep us in it and was rewarded with a goal - our first. To be honest Edenbridge played well and the score did reflect the game.
Thanks go to Steve Webster for his umpiring skills. Welcome to our new players, Nicki, Charnleigh, Kara, Taranpreet and Annie. Finally good luck to Emma who leaves us to attend University- enjoy.

BBHC Ladies 1st team took on Sevenoaks on Saturday in their second league game of the season.
BBHC started at a high pace and Sevenoaks were immediately on the back foot as BBHC pressed forward and Sorcha Crowley put the ball in the back of the net within 8 minutes. BBHC kept the pressure on and were rewarded by another goal from Maz Weeks.
Sevenoaks tried to convert some short corners but BBHC's defence was too strong for them and the half time whistle went at 2-0.
BBHC were caught off guard at the beginning of the second half as Sevenoaks slipped in a goal within the first 5 minutes. BBHC kept their heads, focused on controlling the game again and it was not long before Maz Weeks scored another goal to take the score to 3-1. Two more goals from Maz and one from Nat Lane followed and Sevenoaks were camped out in their 25. They had all but given up as Karen Hall scored a 7th goal for BBHC and Sally Wallace put away an 8th in a well rehearsed short corner routine.
The game ended a well deserved and convincing 8-1 win to BBHC who were delighted to pick up 3 points.

It was the first game back of the new season and BBHC Ladies 1 st XI were playing at home against Folkestone. With not 3 minutes gone, Folkestone had scored an early goal. The remainder of the first half was pretty even but as the half time whistle was due to be blown, Maz Weeks scored an amazing reverse hit goal, evening the score.
In the second half, BBHC started much better but Folkestone managed to break down play again and get another goal. Not long after, BBHC created a great chance with a pass down the middle that broke the Folkestone defence. Sorcha Crowley picked up the pass and made her way into the D, striking the ball from the top of the D, she scored, bringing the game to 2-2.
With not long left, there was a feeling that BBHC would leave the game with a draw and a point but Folkestone had other ideas and again, with some great passes broke away and got their 3rd goal. BBHC piled on the pressure winning short corner after short corner but none were converted. The score remained 3-2 at the final whistle.
