The Men’s 1st XI playing in a local derby match BBHC looked hungry from the start. With refreshed confidence from last weeks win BBHC were rewarded for their early pressure with a goal from Ben Bradley, finishing neatly after a blunder by Blackheaths goalkeeper. With good team spirits a fine defensive display saw the team to halftime with their lead still in tact. A rare Blackheath attack saw them grab a breakaway goal. However patience became key as Bradley capped off a fine performance providing the cross for Ram Kahlsi to claim the winner

While the men were beating Blackheath the Ladies 1st XI took on an even closer derby in the form of Burnt Ash they too approached the game with a fierce and confident attitude applying pressure to the Burnt Ash defense. Sue Moore eventually latched on to one of the many chances that BBHC were creating to go one on one with the Burnt Ash keeper. Keeping a cool head she sidestepped the keeper before slotting the ball into the now open goal. BBHC then showed a composed defense as they continued to control the game to run out worthy winners from a good team performance.

The ladies 2nd XI won 4-3 with goals from Julie Somers-Bayley (2) Mel Oneale and Keely Wond.

While the 3rd XI lost 2-1 with a goal from Chris Brookes.

The Men’s 2nd XI won 2-0 with goals from Phil Price and Jamie Perfett.

The Men’s 3rd XI kept their challenge for promotion alive with a 2 all draw goals came from Andy Galbraith and Mark Rochford While at the lower end of the club the 6th XI put on a stunning display in a game of 17 goals allowing the opposition to claim just 1. Goals came from Dave Davenport, Bob Chapman (3), Steven Mason (3), Lee Humber, Sam Richmond, Sam Young (3), David Humber (2), Edward Andrews and Mark Pellett

The Vets game was against Kenley at Kenley. The team arrived nice and early, hoping for a swift fluid intake before the game only to find the clubhouse locked. However, once the game commenced Hamlets soon warmed to the task. The Kenley pitch is a strange affair with the far "D" rising up a steep hill, which makes for some interesting hits (squeezed or undercut!). Hamlets exerted pressure from the off and soon found the net from one of a number of short corners (Ian Palmer). This was soon followed up by a goal from Peter Richmond and another from Jeff Greenwood-Hone (making an almost home appearance for him). Kenley fought on and got a goal before the half time interval. In the second half Hamlets scored a quick goal again from JGH. Hamlets continued to dominate the game but failed to cash in with anymore goals, whilst Kenley gained a consolation goal late on. The game finished with Hamlets comfortable 4 - 2 winners. Chief Sneak for the day was JGH which probably saved him from a Morris award. He selected Mark Betteney for a sublime reverse stick tackle as the Morris and Alex MacLaren as Doris for forgetting his belt!

After a stern halftime talk BBHC came out and took the lead with a tap in from Steve Rudduck. Wells came back to level at 3 all. Before captain Dan Lucas corrected his earlier missed stroke by scoring a drag flick giving the 1st XI a well earnt result.

The Men’s 3rd started well with an opening goal coming from a Matt Thurlow short corner, however a turn of fortune saw Wellcome take the lead with 2 soft goals. After halftime the 3’s showed why they’re top of their league by dominating the game. Mark Rochford equalized with a superb solo effort. Wellcome became rattled and went down to 10 men while the 3’s took the initiative with 2 goals from Paul Harvey and one from Raj for a final result of 5-2.

The rest of the club had to work hard for some well earnt draws with Ladies 1st and 3rd XI’s obtaining 2 all draws against title challenging opposition with goals from Claire Woodbridge and Sally in the 1st XI and goals from Debbie Copland and Jeannette Grabham for the 3rds while young Sarah Brine fought hard in the 3rds goal to keep them in the game. The Men’s 2nd XI obtained a 4 all draw away to University of Kent with goals from Alan Sains 2, Bimesh Sawhney and Dave Jones in what was a good performance from all involved. The 5th XI got a 3 all draw against Ashford while at halftime they looked set for defeat have fallen to 2 Ashford goals, however a positive halftime talk saw them come out and get 2 quick goals, less than a minute apart, from Liam Doidge and Phil Price before they went on to take the lead through a second Phil Price goal. However Ashford scrapped a point as the clock ran down from a short corner for a result of 3 all. The vets also got a draw with Graeme Perman scoring.

The Men's 1st XI returned from their defeat last week to pick up a pint against second place Herne Bay showing that against the top of the league they can lift their game. Having started the brighter of the 2 teams BBHC conceded against the run of play. A new player to the club Andreas, made his debut goal to bring the scores level. The Men's 1st XI dominated possession early on and put it to good use opening the scoring with a well-worked short corner scored by Dan Lucas again showing good captaincy of the team. However at 1-0 the game was never over and in searching for a second goal to wrap the game up they found their selves caught on the break as Sevenoaks equalized to share the points.

The Men's 2nd XI having proved so good at Canterbury last week could only obtain a draw against New Becc's in a high scoring 4 all game with goals from Adrian Webster, Steve Rudduck, Mike Leigh and Phil Price

The 3rd XI took the long trip down to Folkestone with half of the 4th XI to make up the numbers due to injury and the lateness of this fixture after opening the scoring through 4th team member, Jordan Laws, the 3rds then conceded 4 goals and with 20 minutes left to play decided that the top of the league side should not be beaten by the bottom as they took control of the game to recover to 4 all and searched to get the winner as time ran out. Goals came from Andy Galbraith and Martin Hickman (2).

The 6th team won 3-0 with goals from Dave Davenport (2) and Edward Andrews while at the other end of the pitch Tom Golding pulled off some exceptional saves as the under 16 goal keeper kept his second consecutive clean sheet.

BBHC continued to mount pressure during the second half only to be dealt a killer blow as Folkestone claimed all 3 points

The Men's 2nd XI improved on there 4-2 win last week by only conceding 1 goal this week whilst still scoring 4 themselves as they took the long trip down to Canterbury. considering this was a mid table clash in which 1 point separated their positions in the table BBHC showed a very strong display, with goals from Tej Chaggar, Mike Leigh and Allan Sains 2, to move 4 points clear of Canterbury and keep them in touch with 3rd to 6th place in the league.

The 3rd XI got back to winning ways as they picked up all three points at home to Sevenoaks. Sevenoaks should determination to try and win the match scoring the opener but BBHC then showed the difference between the top of the league and the bottom as captain Andy Galbraith scored 2 and young Sam Ashenden one of the clubs under 16 players scored the 3rd for a comfortable victory.

The 4th XI and 5th XI both fell to losses with the 4th team putting on their strong display of the season with a depleted squad due to injury having gone behind they equalised through Ian Palmer and pushed hard for the winner and were unfortunate to fall to another 2 goals losing 3-1. While the 5th's fell to an 8-1 loss against a strong Canterbury side with Peter Richmond the scorer.

The Men's 1st XI took on league title challengers Maidstone and knew they faced a hard game. they showed great composure and effort as they defended strongly and kept Maidstone at bay as time drew to a close they looked set to earn a point from this tough fixture. but a last minute goal left them with no points from the years first fixture.

The Men's 2nd XI got off to a good start as they embarked on climbing up the league after a below average first half of the season. they played strongly and as a team which had been their achilles hill as they claimed all 3 points with a 4-2 win. goals came from captain Alan sains leading by example with 3 and Tej one of the younger stars of the tam claiming the 4th.

The 3rd XI showed why they are top of their league as they produced a below average display and still came away with a point thanks to a goal from Matt Jobson. the team could of claimed all 3 points if not for a repeat move of the goal being put wide. however it still leaves them in a strong league position.

The 4th XI, 6th XI and Veterans all fell to loses at home. goals came from David Mason in the 6th who is coming through as a strong player this season and the vets scored through a Peter Richmond goal.

The colts had various matches taking place but unfortunately fell to loses across the board with the under 19 boys losing 8-0 and the under 16 girls losing 8-1 with a goal from Sophie Potter the under 11's also played in a mini friendly tournament gaining great experience

BBHC Finish On A High
Both the Men and Ladies 1st XI's finished the first half of the season on winning form. The men gave a very confident performance in the league against Horsham and won convincingly 5-2. This win sets them nicely in mid-table so that they can push on in the second half of the season. The goals came regularly from Ashby, Lucas and Bradley and only a couple of defensive lapses gave Horsham chances that they took well.

On Sunday having had no game on the Saturday, the ladies played the second round of the Kent Cup and had a resounding win against Ashford playing there best hockey of the season. Goals from Hollands, Somers-Bayley & Tuckey capped fine performance from several players and Debbie Henderson deservedly got player of the match. Hopefully this win will give the squad the confidence to produce a more consistent quality of play in the league during the second half of the season.

The ladies 2nd XI also had a fine win against local rivals Blackheath on Saturday and this puts them in strong contention for promotion, Sarah Whale continued her fine run of scoring with a brace and Chloe Phipps also added another to continue her goal scoring run.

The men's 3rd XI played top of the table Burnt Ash and produced the result of the season so far with a demolition job by winning 8-1, captain Andy Galbraith led the way by scoring 4 and this result also puts them in with a chance of promotion.

BBHC 1st XI's have mixed fortunes
The Men's 1st XI played fellow promoted side Sutton Valence, this being there fifth meeting in the last two seasons. In a tense game BBHC looked the stronger of the two sides in the first half and Wheeler may well have opened the scoring before Pete Stanley did from a short corner follow up, after good work by Lucas. Ashby and Bradley were unlucky not to increase the lead after a period of constant BBHC pressure. BBHC then from a breakaway by the Valence forwards failed to deal with a cross and Valence equalised against the run of play to tie the scores 1-1 at half time. The second half was a more even game and it became very tense with both sides creating opportunities, however, neither managed to find the opening and the game petered out to a 1-1 draw.

On Sunday BBHC Men's 1st XI visited Gore Court in the Quarter Final of the Kent Cup and following there last round defeat of Canterbury were confident of another Cup upset. Unfortunately BBHC failed to show any real form against a side who are in the league above. Gore Court went in 1-0 up at the break and added two more in the second half to run out worthy winners 3-0.

The ladies 1st XI played Hertford in there Printwize East Division 2 South game and after a shaky start started to earn several short corners from which they narrowly failed to open the scoring. The score remained 0-0 until half time, in the second half BBHC got the opening there play warranted and Debbie Henderson scored a fine goal from open play. Try as they might Hertford could not find a way past the strong BBHC defence and in particular Samantha Hall who was named player of the match as BBHC ran out deserved winners 1-0 for three vital league points.

On Sunday the Under 14 boys side took on Gore Court and needed a win or draw to go through to the play off's after Xmas. Not only did they win but they played some fantastic hockey on the way to a comfortable 9-0 scoreline. Goals came from 6 different outfield players and Sam Ashenden was named player of the match.

The vets managed a 2 all draw both goals coming from Ian Palmer.

The ladies 1st XI playing in the Printwize East Division 2 South took on Bromley. Taking their Draw from the previous weekend along with their cup win over local rivals Burnt Ash they approached the game full of confidence in the team work that the team is now producing. Starting strongly they went out looking for the win and played some great quality hockey both attacking and defending well. At the end of the first half they had produced 2 goals to give them a deserved lead showing the teams improvement once again over the last few weeks. At the start of the second half they looked to be slipping into old habits as Bromley pulled one back but with great defensive work this was to be Bromley's only goal as BBHC recomposed their selves before putting the game beyond doubt with another 2 goals. Goal scorers were Sue Moore adding another 2 to her tally for the season Sarah Whale showing that she can score in the higher leagues as she scored for her third week in a row. Karen Hall scored the final goal and picked up player of the match in a well fought win.

The ladies 2nd XI continued with their 5 nil thrashings as they showed Crackenford the way. A great team performance with all 5 goals coming from different players showed the confidence in the side to take on goal scoring opportunities. This coupled with their third clean sheet through excellent defensive work places them in a very strong position for the rest of the season. Goals came from Julie Somers-Bayley, Mel Neale, Tina Botsworth, Georgina Smith and Chloe Phipps.

The ladies 3rd XI fell to a 7 nil loss with an out field player stepping into goal to fill a keeper shortage. Due to torrential weather conditions BBHC were unable to pull back any goals during the 55 minute long match.

Colts
Under 14 Boys 3 - 2 Old Bordenians
(Ashenden, V Moore, Bennett)
Under 16 Girls 0 - 3 Tunbridge Wells

The men's 1st XI fell to another hard fought defeat during a local derby against title contenders BlackHeath. With tensions running higher BBHC made the perfect start taking a 1 nil leader from a short corner converted by Kirk Williamson a new comer to the team. BBHC showed great skill and passion to take the lead into the half time break. With the high tensions came a lot of green and yellow cards as Blackheath tried to get back into the game and over a 10 min spell of pressure Blackheath scored twice to win the game. The Men's 2nd XI also lost 2-1 with a penalty flick being converted by Phil Price while the 4th XI and 5th XI also fell to defeats.

The 3rd XI continued to show their strength as a team by recording a 5-1 win over Sevenoaks Acorns. The side displayed some great hockey with goals coming from Martin Hickman, Raj (2), Ian Brine and a penalty flick from Jaspal Thind.

The 6th XI picked up three points as they returned to action against Gillingham and Anchorians with Lee Humber and Dave Davenport sharing the goals two a piece. While young goal keeper Tom Golding saved a penalty flick.

The Veterans sustained an unfortunate consecutive lose in there season. The only goal coming from Ian Palmer as they lost 2-1 to Tunbridge.

The ladies 1st XI playing in the Printwize East Division 2 South took on WG City having lost the week before BBHC went out looking for the win and played some good quality hockey holding there own in defence whilst applying some great attacking pressure. However the result was not to go quite as they had hoped as they narrowly failed to find the win with missed chances leading to a great game with the teams sharing the points in a nil-nil draw. Although disappointed not to have got all three points the ladies had shown great improvement from their previous games and came away positive and pleased.

The ladies 2nd XI progressed there good form last week to show Canterbury that the BBHC ladies teams are coming together and gaining strength and confidence by giving Canterbury a 5 nil thrashing Mel Neale a long running club member scored a hat trick along with Tina Botsworth while Sarah Whale completed the goal scorers showing that she has found her eye for goal with her second in two games.

The ladies 3rd XI also showed that they were making a step in the right direction with there second game in five weeks. Although sustaining a higher negative goal difference than last week they showed that things are coming together with a goal from one of this seasons new comers Sophie Potter.

Sunday November
Ladies 1st XI Cup Game

Having picked up a point the day before the ladies were fired up and ready to go in this local derby cup-tie. Again going out for the win the ladies played some great attacking hockey as they showed Burnt Ash that they are definitely a team on the up with goals from Julie Somers-Bayley (3) Sue Moore and Karen Hall BBHC proved to much for Burnt Ash who managed to score a measly 1 in this 5-1 cup victory. 16th

Colts
On Sunday 16th November 2003, BBHC U16 Girls lost 3-0 at home to Tunbridge Wells. It was only their second game together, yet they showed encouraging signs. Perseverance will undoubtedly lead to similar performances to the U14 Boys, who had a similar experience last season..

The U14 Boys came back yesterday with another win, this time away to an equally-matched Old Bordenians side. Sam Ashenden gave us a 1st half lead but OB's were eventually 2-1 up early in the 2nd half. An end-to-end game saw us spurn many chances against their Kent-trialist keeper, yet Yasin at the other end held firm as well.

Vincent Moore brought parity with a sweetly struck penalty corner, then later cut the OB's defence to shreds before sliding the ball past the keeper for Scott Bennett to score from a yard out. Vinnie's all round game finally showed signs of development with is high work-rate and gradually increasing willingness to pass (!) bringing his fellow team-mates into the game. The boys voted him Man-Of-The-Match.

In fact, every single one of the lads showed significant signs of improvement, and this was easily their best game as a team and individually.

Special mention goes to the diminutive yet brave Joe Brown. Inspired by Sarah Tuckey's recent experience, Joe got a stick in the face as thanks for his determination to put in a typically firm tackle! The battle-harden Brown should be back in action in no time, however.

The result means our record is P4 W3 D0 L1 F10 A14 - 9Pts. This means that we stand a very good chance of finishing 2nd behind Canterbury and going through with them to the Top division of 6 teams for the latter half of the season and a guaranteed Top-6 finish in the Kent League!

Under 14 Boys 3 - 2 Tulse Hill
(Ashenden (2), D.Humber)

The men's 1st XI found that once again this league is not going to be a walk over as the last one was as they fell to another hard fought defeat. Tunbridge Wells opened the scoring. BBHC then equalised through a short corner from captain Dan Lucas, the side then allowed Tunbridge Wells to the return the favour twice in quick succession before Ben Bradley cancelled one out with another short corner just before half time. Through an aggressive approach to the second half Tunbridge countered BBHC to take a 4-2 lead. Dean Wheeler bought the game back into reach after some great work from Pete Stanley to put him through before BBHC conceded a penalty flick to lose the game 5-3

The Men's 2nd XI lacked focus and continuity in the side having to call upon players from the 3rd XI to fill player shortages. As a result they lost 4-2 with both goals coming from short corners with Mark Ashby and Alan Sains again increasing their goal tallies.

The 3rd XI continued to keep themselves in the upper half of their league by recording a 4-0 win over welcome showing the depth in the club as players came up from the 4th XI to fill player shortages. The side displayed some very good play at times and early in the game showed great determination to keep Welcome from scoring. Goals came from Andy Galbraith, Martin Hickman and Kevin King.

The 5th XI showed determination after going behind to Ashford coming back to win 2-1 with goals from Dave Davenport and Niall Doidge one of the clubs up and coming youngsters again showing great potential and skill.

The Veterans sustained an unfortunate 4-2 lose in there season having kept clean sheets for most of their matches so far. Goals came from Graeme Perman and Alex MacLaren

The ladies 1st XI playing in the Printwize East Division 2 South took on local rivals Burnt Ash and came away with an unfortunate lose after a hard game in which one player picked up a broken nose.

The ladies 2nd XI had things go a little better for them with a 1-1 draw against Remnance with Sarah Whale getting their goal.

The ladies 3rd XI had their first game in 3 weeks and with 16 players to rotate on and off the pitch found it hard to create any continuity falling to a 2-0 defeat against Folkstone.

The Colts wrapped up the weekend fixtures notching up another win in a 3-2 thriller which was pushed right the to wire with a last minute goal by David Humber after 2 from Sam Ashenden, one of which was a stoke, had lead the game to 2 a piece. The under 12's also played in a couple of friendlys against Sutton Valence gaining them some great knowledge and match experience.

BBHC won 4-2 on penalty flicks

BBHC Take Off
The men's 1st XI played Gillingham/Anchorians and recorded a fine win to get them off and running at last in this league. After several yellow cards were given it was very hard to build up a pattern of play. However, mid way through the first half Phil Price followed up a short corner strike to open the scoring to give BBHC a 1-0 lead at the break. In the second half Anchs leveled early on but with minutes to go BBHC had another penalty short and again from the follow up Dan Lucas was on hand to strike what turned out to be the winner.

The 2nd XI also got back to winning ways with a 7-2 thumping of local rivals Rasra, it was the Mark Ashby and Tej Chagga show as they shared the 7 goals between them. The 3rd XI lost out narrowly 4-3 to Alleyn's who were top of the league, they were always playing catch up, the highlight was a rare goal from Martin Hickman who scored a fine individual effort. The 4th XI also lost out going down 3-2 to a strong Anchs side, Barry Stott and Darren Laws scored two fine goals. The 6th X1 came away with a good 1-1 draw against Holcombe, with Pete Pellett getting the BBHC goal.

The ladies were severely depleted in numbers and with the 1st XI being the only game on they were not expected to have a good day. This was certainly true as they lost heavily 8-1 to a strong Upminster side, Alison Hollands scored the consolation goal late on.#

On Sunday the men played the 2nd round of the Kent Cup against favorites Canterbury. This was a game where BBHC wanted to see how much they had come on in the last year and a half. In a spirited first half BBHC matched the opposition and after going a goal down fought back with an equaliser from Pete Stanley. The second half was much the same with Canterbury taking the lead but BBHC fought back again and right on the stroke of full time Phil Price scored the equalise. The game eventually went to penalty flicks and Lee Cook in goal made some vital saves to give BBHC a winning 4-2 margin. This was an outstanding win and BBHC are running into some good form, which they will need to keep up both in the league and the next round of the cup.

BBHC Men Come Close
The men's 1st XI played Herne Bay and in a tight game came out narrow 2-1 losers. Having gone 2-0 down quickly they then started to play some good hockey and were rewarded in the second half with a fine goal by skipper Dan Lucas. Try as they might the equaliser did not materialise and they again ended up pointless. The 2nd XI fought out a 0-0 draw in a dour match against Old Bordenians and await the return of key strikers over the coming weeks. The 4th XI looked to be getting a good point but Ashford scored a late winner to leave the team bottom of there league. The 5th and 6th XI's both had good victories but the performance of the day came from the Veterans who hammered Kenley 5-2 with captain Ian Palmer scoring 3 and having a hand in the other 2.

Only the ladies 1st XI played and most probably wished they had not as they suffered there heaviest defeat of the season so far by losing 4-0 to a strong Tun Wells side in there Printwize East Division 2 South fixture. The team lacked spirit and skill and never really got into the game, the only performance of note came from Karen White who kept the score fairly respectable in goal.

BBHC Men throw away 2 points
On Saturday the men's 1st XI played Sevenoaks who were currently joint top of the league, BBHC started off superbly going into a 2-0 lead at half time with some exhilarating hockey that left a bemused Sevenoaks wondering how this side had lost its opening 2 games. The goals had come from Mark Ashby a short corner strike from Simon Myers. Early in the second half BBHC should have had a penalty flick but the umpire for some reason thought otherwise and to rub salt into the wounds Sevenoaks were awarded a flick minutes later at the other end and duly converted it. This gave Sevenoaks the impetus they were looking for and BBHC game plan was under threat, with minutes to go Sevenoaks got an equaliser when on the balance of play BBHC should have won.

Due to problems with home pitches, fixtures were hastily re-arranged during the week and the men's 3rd X1 ended up playing on there home grass pitch. Thinking this may prove difficult was quickly put to the back of there minds as they trounced Folkstone 6-1. The 2nd XI ran out poor 2-1 losers to New Beccs and they are going to have to improve if they want to be in with a chance of promotion. The 4th XI took a weakened side to Herne Bay and the 5-0 defeat was not a fair reflection of the game as the side put up a good display. With the 5th XI game cancelled the 6th XI went out and got there first win of the season courtesy of a Bipen Patel strike to defeat Welcome 1-0. The Veterans continued there fine start to the season with a good 3-0 win at Old Mid-Wives with all 3 goals coming in the first half from Ken Maxston, Anup Sharma & Jag Khuman.

The ladies 1st X1 were the only side to play and came up against a strong Colchester side in the Printwize East Division 2 South game. In a controversial game where the umpires were in the spot light far too much the game kept being interrupted with poor decisions being made. The home side were not effected as much as BBHC who had a player sent off in the second half following more frustrating decisions. BBHC went into the half time break 1-0 down but still dug deep to try and get something out of the game. Unfortunately this was not to be and Colchester added one more to there total to run out 2-0 winners.

Sunday 19th October
Both the boys and girls colts suffered heavy defeats to more experienced sides Bromley and Canterbury respectively but as this was the first time many of these players had played together the coaches Andrei Mendis and Sarah Tuckey feel they have a base on which to build and are very optimistic of better results for the future.

The Veterans also held there home tournament on Sunday and in a very special social day the best 2 sides Blackheath and Satellite reached an enthralling final where Satellite ran out narrow 1-0 winners. This tournament is getting stronger every year and the standard of play and teams is improving. The home side BBHC entered 2 sides and both put up good displays but lacked that killer instinct in front of goal.

Sunday October 12th
Men 1st XI - HA Cup 2nd Round
BBHC 2 - 4 Beckenham
(Chris Deeks & Phil Price)

The ladies 1st XI played Sudbury in there Printwize East Division 2 South game and were unlucky in the end to run out narrow 3-2 losers. Sudbury threatened to over run the home side in the first half but Karen White in goal was outstanding and was unfortunate when beaten midway through the half. However, BBHC fought back and on the stroke of half time Coral Jones making her debut for the 1st XI scored from close range after following up a short corner strike. In the second half BBHC started the same as the 1st and were quickly 3-1 one down with some poor defensive play. Again though they fought there way back in and with 5 minutes to go were awarded a penalty, which Sharon Young made no mistake, They pressed on and from a last minute short corner could have leveled the scores, however, the chance was wasted and they were consigned to there second defeat in this league.

The ladies 2nd XI continued there good start to the season with a deserved 2-1 victory against Beckenham with Sarah Whale tying up the scores in the first half and Wendy Davenport getting the winner in the second. The ladies 3rd XI ran out unlucky losers to a strong Gore Court side by 4-2 score, however, a plus came from Katherine McGuire who was player of the match on her debut for the club and she also scored a fine goal.

The men's 1st XI were beaten by Folkstone and have now lost there opening 2 fixtures, again they did not make the scoring opportunities count and manager Steve Rudduck is going to have to get the side back on the training ground to iron out the problem this week.

The 2nd XI played a very strong Canterbury side and in a scratchy game where tempers were always at boiling point BBHC had to dig deep to raise there game. After going down 1-0 mid-way through the half they started to play some improved hockey and were rewarded 10 minutes from half time when Chris Deeks scored a screamer from a short corner. The second half was dominated by BBHC with Canterbury losing there discipline and shape, Alan Sains a second half sub got on the end of a Deeks pass to put the home side 2-1 up. With minutes to go BBHC rapped up the game when Deeks scored direct from another short after fooling the goalkeeper with a finely disguised shot.

The 3rd XI had to settle for a draw after going 2 goals down by early in the second to a strong Sevenoaks eleven. However, there never say die spirit stood them well and they fought back with 2 good strikes by Godfrey Leung who was making his debut for the side. The new 4th XI side looked to be heading for a well deserved draw against a BICC 2nd XI but a combination of poor finishing and one defensive lapse deep into the second half saw them lose 1-0. The 5th XI came up against division favorites Canterbury and were well beaten 6-0. With the 6th XI getting a walkover, the Vets played Croydon and in a dour game had to settle for a 0-0 draw on a difficult pitch.

On Sunday the Men's 1st XI took on Beckenham in the second round of the HA Cup. Playing a team that are 2 leagues above them proved difficult and they spent most of the game in there own half. After 15 minutes Beckenham opened the scoring with a good short corner routine, they quickly followed up with a second with a similar routine. BBHC looked down and out, however they fought back and just before half time they had a short corner of there own and Chris Deerks was on hand to follow up from close range to make the score 2-1 down at the break. The second half was similar to the first with Beckenham having most of the decent pressure and they increased there lead after 10 minutes with another goal from a short corner. As the game wore on BBHC fitness started to pay off and they grew stronger, from a breakaway a fine passage of passing led to Phil Price getting a goal to narrow the score to 3-2. Panic then set in and BBHC were getting on top, they had a couple of good opportunities from short corners and only good goalkeeping by the oppo kept the ball out of the goal. Right on the stroke of full time Beckenham were awarded a penalty corner of there own and made no mistake by scoring a fine goal to run out 4-2 winners. BBHC must now concentrate on the league and the next round of the Kent Cup in November against Canterbury.

BBHC 4 Maidstone 2
(Sam Ashenden 2 & Vince Moore 2)

The ladies 1st X1 played there second Printwize East Division 2 South game against Blueharts. Following last weeks disappointing defeat, coach Kevin King was looking for an improved performance. This he got and in a tight game BBHC opened the scoring after 20 minutes from open play with Claire Woodbridge getting her first of the season. Determination was the name of the game and BBHC stuck to there game plan and were further rewarded 10 minutes from the final whistle with Alison Holland scoring from a short corner to get the team back on track with a fine 2-0 victory.

The ladies 2nd X1 faired even better running out 4-2 winners at Deal, they finally found there scoring touch and but for some brave goalkeeping by the Deal player the score may have been far greater. Leading 2-1 at half time with fine strikes by Tina Bosworth and Mel Neale, they pushed on in the second half with Mel getting her second and Katie Meehan rounding off the scoring with a fine individual effort.

Unfortunately, the ladies were denied a clean sweep of wins when the 3rd X1 ran out unlucky 3-2 losers to Phoenix.

The men's 1st X1 played there first league match of the season against strong opposition Maidstone and were rocked by a 4-2 defeat. After impressive pre-season form, expectations were high but disappointment was to follow. Having gained promotion they found out in this game unless you take the chances created good oppo will punish you. So it was to prove, in the first 25 minutes BBHC carved out good chances which, Sawhney & Bradley squandered, with there first real attack the Maidstone centre-forward opened the scoring pass a motionless Lee Cook in goal. This was quickly followed by a second direct from a short corner and things were looking ominous for BBHC. However, just before half time BBHC were awarded a short and with a fine strike by Simon Myers, Mark Ashby was on hand to score from the follow up. This gave BBHC revitalised spirit and they came out fighting in the second half and Bradley again went close. But they shot themselves in the foot by giving away possession on the top of there 'D' and Maidstone took full advantage to increase the lead to 3-1. Again though BBHC hit back and Ashby scored his second with a fine individual reverse stick shot. As they pushed forward for the equlaiser they left themselves exposed at the back and Maidstone were again clinical in scoring a fourth goal for a fine 4-2 win. BBHC need to do some work on the training ground this week to ensure they are more clinical next week against Folkstone.

The 2nd X1 got a well deserved 2-2 draw away to Deal with captain Alan Sains scoring a fine brace. The 3rd X1 ran out easy 3-0 winners at home to Guru Nanak but the 4th & 6th X1 found out how hard there divisions are with crushing 10-1 & 7-2 defeats respectively.

It was left to the Veterans who played away to Farnham Common in Slough to restore some BBHC pride. Superbly led by new captain Ian Palmer they got off to a flyer with Palmer himself opening the scoring. Farnham hit back hard and went into the break 2-1 up. However, the Hamlets never give up and although Farnham most probably deserved a draw Graham Perman had other ideas and scored two fantastic goals late on in the second half to give them a 3-2 win.

On Sunday the Men's 1st X1 took on Marden Russetts in the opening round of this seasons Kent Cup and found themselves 1-0 down at half time after some indifferent play. The half-time talk obviously worked as they came out a transformed side and were soon on level terms after Mark Ashby had been fouled in the 'D' and the resulting decision was a penalty. Dan Lucas duly converted and quickly followed up with a second five minutes later. Phil Price added a third late on in the game and the side have now gained an away fixture to one of the favorites Canterbury in the next round. They have also been drawn at home to Beckenham in the next round of the HA Cup, this game takes place on Sunday 12th Oct 1.30pm at Erith School.

The Colts under-14 side completed the weekends fixtures by taking on Maidstone in there first league fixture of the new season. With a few new faces it took them time to settle against a side they had lost heavily too the previous season. This resulted in them going into half time 2-1 down with Sam Ashenden scoring a fine goal to keep the game tight. However, in the second half fitness and pressure paid off for the home side with Ashenden scoring a second and Vince Moore getting a couple to make the final score 4-2. This will give the squad much needed confidence with a difficult game against Canterbury coming up next.

1st XI 0 - 2 Braintree
2nd XI 1 - 4 Tunbridge Wells
3rd XI 0 - 6 Blackheath

The ladies 1st XI played there first Printwize East Division 2 South game following there relegation last season. They started off nervously which was understandable following last seasons results. However, they settled down and in a half where few scoring opportunities were created they went into the break even at 0-0. The second half saw BBHC push on to try and open the scoring, unfortunately Braintree had two breakaway chances and made them count by scoring both times. Try as they might BBHC created several good chances but could not find the back of the net. Player of the match Sharon Young set the work rate standard that is going to be required this season if they are to finish in a promotion spot, however, plenty of work on the training ground is still needed.

The men's 1st XI played there final warm up game before the league season starts next Saturday with the 1st round of the Kent Cup also taking place the following day. Due to availability problems BBHC had an under strength side. In a pulsating first half BBHC found themselves a goal down with a clinical finish by the Bordenians forward leaving goalkeeper Lee Cook stranded. Cook also made several fine saves in the half to keep the score at only 1-0. The second half brought about a change in fortunes for the newly promoted side, this followed a stern talking to by manager Steve Ruddock at half-time. A fine team move early in the half saw Peter Stanley make no mistake as he leveled the scores. This instilled some confidence into the forwards and fine efforts followed from Stanley, Ashby, Ruddock himself and new boy Williamson. However, try as they might they could not get the goal there play deserved and the game petered out to a 1-1 draw.

BBHC 6th XI 3 - 7 Gore Court

With the new league season still a couple of weeks away the lower X1's had friendlies against Gore Court, the result of the day being the 2nd X1 win against a side 2 leagues above them, hopefully this is a sign of things to come during the season.

3rd X1 report as supplied by Mat Furlow A fantastic performance all round, Bruce in goal had a great performance despite conceding 2. The defence was solid with a steady performance from Alex and his dad, new boy Andy Phillips also had a good debut and Jobson was on the pitch. Some good goals were scored by Lucas 2, Harding 3, Clarke and captain Goals. Some silky passing and movement from the midfield and forwards helped secure the game. A special word for Steve Harding who has a new sponsor from 'Air Hockey UK'. He receives the ball on the right goes past one , goes past two, tries to cross the ball, swings and misses, then falls on his face, this shows he deserves the sponsorship.

On Sunday the 1st X1 visited Norfolk to play Harlestone Magpies who are ex National League, BBHC wanted to prove that last season promotion was not a flash in the pan by putting up a good show. Not only did they do this but looked throughout the game as if they were the ex National league side with the quality of there play. Midway through the first half Dan Lucas opened the scoring with a great effort and BBHC went in at half-time 1-0 up. Try as they might Magpies could not break down the BBHC defence in the second half and the team produced a fine containing performance to run out 1-0 winners to get the season off to a great start.

'BBHC sting the Magpies'
The day started early with a an 8am meet at the club and a long journey into deepest Suffolk. Harlston were a young team who had finished 4th in the East Premier last year, BBHC knew they were in for a tough game. The pitch was water based but from the early touches it seemed that BBHC were more at home on it and the large crowd that had gathered at the side of the pitch were quiet. They were silenced when Stanley picked the ball up wide on the right and with his trademark one handed drive round the back drew the stick tackle, resulting in a short corner. The team gathered at the top of the 'D' to select a routine which had been freshly practiced the day before. Stanley pulled out to the top, Brine cushioned the ball into the 'D' and Lucas drag flicked the ball, with inch perfect precision. 8 minutes gone and BBHC one up, but wait…… the opposition claimed the ball had gone wide, it had in fact gone through a hole in the net, were BBHC to be denied. No, after consultation the umpires stuck to there guns and awarded the goal. Harleston were clearly rattled but soon settled down into their slick passing game but BBHC defended magnificently and relied on breakaway chances. For all Harlston's slick moves they did not create many open play chances and relied upon drawing short corners.

The BBHC routine was solid through with a 2:2 zonal system and the Harlston strike man was not troubling "The Meat". With five minutes to go before half-time Harlston got a further short corner, the umpire on the half way line blew her whistle hard against 'Bad Boy' Mungo who had encroached the half way line again after being warned 4 times, resulting in a yellow card. Stanley dropped back to cover and Deeks came on at right half to cover the last 5 minutes of the first half and first 5 of the second while down to 10 men. The second half continued in the same vain as the first with the BBHC backline of Albut, Ravi, Northern and Mungo holding tight and strong. The midfield worked very hard with Penfold and Stanley making surging runs up the line and Ravi and Lucas keeping up an amazing work rate which really made a difference. The rotating frontline of Deeksie, Ashby and Price were very patient and made searching runs which resulted in some very good open play chances. Ram and Ashby even tried spectacular LBZ's but haven't yet realised that you are supposed to connect with the ball!

One of the umpires as already mentioned was a lady… now you may wonder why I mention this, with about 5 minutes to go Penfold mentioned that 'this is not ladies hockey', he duly spent the rest of the game on the side line. However, BBHC held out for a 1-0 win against a team that were a couple of leagues higher and although BBHC conceded a number of short corners we did not look out of place, by a long way, "Bring em on!".
